A recent video of Alicia Silverstone and her son, Bear Blu, has been causing a stir on the web. In the 40 second clip, Silverstone is seen feeding her son by directly transferring pre-chewed food from her mouth to her baby’s mouth, such as how birds feed their young. The video, which was posted on her blog The Kind Life last week, has spread like wild fire, becoming a catalyst for debates among moms and medical experts worldwide.

Type I diabetes in your child

You’ve noticed your normally bouncy little Energizer Bunny being tired, weak, and, disturbingly, with no appetite.  Sounds like the flu.

However, if your child has been unusually thirsty and producing excessive and pale urine, this could be serious.  Type I diabetes is diagnosed annually as the cause of these symptoms in 30,000 children and young adults in the US.  About three million Americans live with this condition.

But there were three that stood out for maintaining a strong eco-friendly lifestyle.  Check them out below, and see why they earned a “green thumbs up” for their efforts.

Two months before winning her Best Actress Oscar in February for her role in the psychological thriller “Black Swan,” Natalie Portman made headlines when she annouced that she was engaged and expecting her first child with dancer Benjamin Millepied. The 30-year-old, who welcomed son Aleph in June, reverted to being a vegetarian for her pregnancy (Portman’s been a vegetarian since she was a child, and switched to being a vegan in 2009), stating that she was “listening to my body to have eggs and dairy.”

She gets a green thumbs-up for: Patterning her philosophy on vegetarianism and natural living to meet the nutritional needs of her body and baby. She also gets plus points for being an animal rights advocate, and for successfully launching her own line of vegan footwear. { read more }
